Well, at least the fall issue of Edible San Diego has arrived. Even though the weather hasn’t changed, schools are back in session and the summer garden is starting to fade, which makes it feel like the summer season is on the wane. But as usual, here in San Diego County the weather is beautiful and there is no shortage of activities for those looking to support their local community despite the imminent end of summer.
ANOTHER BUSY WEEKEND IN SAN DIEGO
Here are a few of the events going on this weekend (check the Events section on our website for additional events and more information on the below events). We will be at some of these events with the latest issue (Fall) of Edible San Diego.
Saturday
On Saturday afternoon Lightning Brewery will celebrate their Second Anniversary with a party at the brewery. $25 gets you 10 tasters. There will be 10 Lightning beers on tap, including their new Electrostatic Ale! And, if Lightning’s “Better Beer through Science” isn’t enough for you, guest beers provided by Port, Stone, AleSmith, Green Flash, Ballast Point, and Coronado will be on hand to help with the celebration. Pizza Port will be there with food. Live music by Brain Bucket from 3 to 5 p.m.
Food, drink, music, art! Hmm…sounds like the annual Fruit of the Soul event. Saturday, September 6, 6:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. at the Specialty Produce warehouse on Hancock Street hosted by Niamh Scott and Kelly Orange. Yes, it’s a party. Yes, it’s an annual fundraiser to support the preservation of music, art, and sustainable education in San Diego. This third annual celebration will feature plenty of food and drinks from some of San Diego’s finest dining venues (and of course fresh produce from Specialty Produce), live music, a silent auction, fashion, and art – all in one location. If you don’t already have tickets you can buy them at the door. $40 includes entrance to the show, drink tickets, and delicious edibles. Oh yes, and you can pick up a copy of the new fall issue of Edible San Diego from us that evening. See you there!
Another Anniversary! Congratulations to Ritual Tavern in North Park! They are celebrating their one year anniversary – all month – by bringing in local artisans to present their own specialties. This weekend they are featuring wines from Christopher Cameron Vineyards, including some local wines, as well as beer from local brewers Green Flash and AleSmith. Hungry? How about cured meat, hand carved on site? Or local seafood? Take time to stop in and congratulate Mike and Staci on their success so far, and enjoy something from the menu! While you are there, pick up the fall issue of Edible San Diego, also serving fresh and local fare.
Sunday
Continuing the anniversary theme, Coronado Brewing Company celebrates their 12th Anniversary this Sunday, September 7 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Join the celebration by partaking in the $2 beer and free appetizers. Perhaps while watching the San Diego Chargers game…..
Enjoy the wonderful weather and we hope to see you at a farmers market or at one of the many other events throughout our community supporting our local farmers, producers, food or beverage artisans. Check the Edible San Diego website for locations to pick up the fall issue of Edible San Diego hitting the streets this weekend.
